Maki the small edgy design studio hailing from the Netherlands are due to release the much eagerly anticipated book, Custom Kicks. They have invited over 140 artists, illustrators and designers from all over the world to customise a pair of sneakers in their own style. You can find Jeremyville, Skwak, Steven Harrington, Chuck Anderson, Mike Perry, Boris Hoppek, Emil Kozak, Jon Burgerman amoung them.
The book aims to highlight the customisation trend sweeping the sneakerhead community, answering questions such as the origins of the trend and the materials and techniques the artists use. There are even tips, so you can give it a go. Bit more sophisticated than tipexing your school shoes eh?
The book is only available in a limited run so act fast and pre order your copy now at Amazon. The official launch is being held by The American Book Store in Amsterdam on Saturday the 28th of June when some of the featured artists will appear for live customisations.
If your feeling a bit strapped for cash but cant wait to get your grubby mitts on a copy, then head over to the Don’t Panic website, they are running a competition to give a way a free book. All you have to do is answer a simple question, (which I have kindly answered in this blog post).
